Mekies Sets High Expectations for Hadjar's Move to Red Bull in 2026
With Isack Hadjar confirmed to partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing for the 2026 season, Team Principal Laurent Mekies has outlined the team's expectations for the young French driver. Hadjar is set to replace Yuki Tsunoda, who will transition to a test and reserve role for both Red Bull teams.
Hadjar’s promotion comes after an impressive rookie campaign with Racing Bulls in 2025. Despite a difficult start—including a spin on the formation lap in Australia—he quickly recovered, delivering consistent points and earning his maiden podium at Zandvoort.

Reflecting on Hadjar’s performance, Mekies praised his "outstanding" starting point and his ability to evolve rapidly throughout the season. "We have seen him making stuff in the car that he was not doing three races before," Mekies noted, highlighting the team's belief in driver development over just raw talent.
Looking ahead to 2026, Mekies emphasized that joining the senior team is not the final destination. "We don't see it as a landing point.
We see it as another start for him to continue to develop, to continue to impress us, to continue to surprise us," he stated, adding that this journey of improvement is expected to continue well into his second and third years.
